Cryogenic Testing

Our thermal performance testing services allow us to test a multitude of materials and stack-ups to characterize the properties of any given test specimen. This allows us to offer actual performance data on any proposed insulation system. These can be compared to previous test data to offer insight into expected performance.

Cryogenic Thermal Performance Testing

Aerospace Fabrication & Materials performs testing of insulation systems using a Cryostat-200 developed by NASA’s Kennedy Space Center. It uses cryogenic boil-off calorimetry in a steady state method measuring the mass flow rate of the metering fluid.

This steady state mass flow rate is measured across the entire spectrum of pressures from hard vacuum to standard atmosphere. The derived results include apparent thermal conductivity and heat flux.

  • Our cryogenic testing facility provides cryogenic testing of lightweight insulation at a variety of pressure levels
  • Laboratory reports and data are provided with each test
  • All testing performed per ASTM C1774, Annex A2 and ASTM C740

The Importance of Testing at Cryogenic Temperatures

Thermal conductivity testing services using a cryostat are crucial for systems and products that are required to experience extreme temperatures. . Aerospace Fabrication & Materials provides this key cryogenic testing at our facility for your most extreme and sensitive systems.
